The Church in God’s Plan – An Introduction

Before the foundation of the world, God according to His foreknowledge and eternal omniscient had determined before-hand and marked out His plan and programme for the human race, more especially for the Church – The Body of Christ (Eph 1:4-5, 1 Pet 1:17-21).

God is a God of plan, purposes and pursuits, He has divided His programme into segments or periods or dispensations (Eph 1:10, Col 1:25) and all timing are in His Power. (Acts 1:7, 1 Thess 5:1-11, Eph 1:11, Rom 11:33-36). Though it is not for us to know the times and seasons which the Father has put in His own power and the mysteries of the kingdom by His Spirit (Deut 29:29, Mk 4:11-12). And we are admonished not to be ignorant but to know the plans and submit to them (Rev 1:3, 22:18-21, Jn 8:30-32, Hosea 4:6, Lk 12:47-48).

The word “Age” Aion or worlds as it sometimes appear in the New Testament, refers to a period of time. In reference to the church (e.g church age), the term, this present age (or world) refers to the inter advent period. This is the period from the rejection of the messiah by Israel to the coming reception of the messiah by Israel at His second coming (the period of time between the two advents of Christ).

In this study we shall divide the ages into three major divisions of the past, present and future (Eph 3:21) viz:

The Ages Past (Eph 3:5,9, Lk 1:70, Acts 3:5, Col 1:26)

The Present Age (Gal 1:4, Matt 13:22, 40, 1 Cor 1:20, 2:6, 1Tim 6:17, Lk 16:8, 20:34-35). This is an age of warfare (Eph 6:12, Col 1:13-14) to liberate mankind from satan’s dominion (1 Jn 5:19, 2 Cor 4:4, Eph 2:2).
